SoulCalibur II
Improving upon every aspect from the original, SoulCalibur II brings the awesome sword-based combat to the Xbox for the first time. In this entry, players will be able to choose from up to twelve different characters, including the Xbox exclusive Spawn, to duke it out in beautifully rendered arenas.
There are multiple different modes in this title as well which change up the gameplay nicely. In the Weapon Master mode, players will be able to compete for over 200 different weapons to add to their arsenal, each with their own perks and attributes. SoulCalibur II is more than a worthy successor to the original and one of the best fighters on Xbox.
Dead or Alive 3
This scantily clad fighting game is perfect for fans of Japanese fighting games without the overbearing complexity some may offer. Dead or Alive 3 is easily one of the best-looking games on the Xbox, giving players some of the most beautifully rendered characters and arenas that a launch title could offer.
This entry keeps the split-level arenas which contributed to this game’s uniqueness, allowing players to smash through walls and continue fighting. The counter system also makes a reappearance giving the game some more balance. All-together, Dead or Alive 3 is one of the best brawlers on the system and a must-play for newcomers.
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
A remaster of the original Guilty Gear X2, #Reload brings refined mechanics, plenty of weird characters, and tons of anime fun to the Xbox. Guilty Gear is an awesome game for both newcomers and fighting games aficionados alike, with each character being weirder than the last, and up to 19 equally unique characters to choose from.
#Reload features eight different game modes which each change the gameplay nicely, offering new ways to play. The arenas are all beautiful as well, each beautifully rendered in a great anime style. Guilty Gear X2 #Reload is an awesome fighter and among the greats on the Xbox.
Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO
An updated version of the original Capcom vs. SNK 2, EO offers simplified gameplay for newcomers to this awesome franchise. There are 48 different playable characters in this title, most of whom come from either the Street Fighter or King of Fighters series’, each keeping their iconic moves.
There are six fighting styles, called “Grooves”, which change up the fighting really nicely and let the player play with each of the distinct styles from Capcom and SNK fighters. Players will also be able to take their skills online with Xbox LIVE, with rankings and leaderboards of the best players around the world. Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO is one of the best fighters for newcomers and a great title all-together.
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
Deadly Alliance brings the brutal combat that Mortal Kombat is known for to the Xbox for an age-old battle between good and evil. All of the classic Mortal Kombat characters return for even more deadly combat, as well as eleven new combatants that give their own spin on the classic fighting of Mortal Kombat.
Each warrior has three different fighting styles that can be changed before the match, giving the player even more options to play around with. Mortal Kombat has never looked better, with beautifully rendered backgrounds and characters, giving players the most immersive fighting experience the series has to offer.
