MSI GT83VR Titan SLI – Virtually Unstoppable Gaming Power

The MSI GT83VR Titan SLI is among the most powerful gaming laptops you can lay your hands on. Costing over $5000, this gaming beast can put a large hole in your wallet. This gaming laptop possesses some features that make it one of a kind. I will leave that for you to answer after you have read this detailed review of the MSI GT83VR Titan SLI. Consider pairing this with a best mechanical keyboard for unlimited gaming potential!

Simply put, the MSI GT83VR Titan SLI is both heavy, and large. Weighing over 12 pounds with about 2 inches thick chassis, the MSI GT83 will seem no less than a behemoth on your table. As far as the chassis goes, it has a solid appearance and for the most part, is made up of plastic. It is needless to say that MSI should have considered using a more premium material for the chassis of a laptop that costs over 5 thousand dollars. The lid is made of brushed Aluminum, accented by two red darts. A backlit dragon logo, and the MSI label, also houses the lid.

Keyboard and Touchpad:

The keyboard of this gaming machine is absolutely top-notch; I must give it that. MSI GT83 features a full mechanical keyboard, alongside a digital, touch number pad. Not only that, GT83 is the first ever gaming laptop to incorporate Cherry MX Mechanical Switches in its keyboard. Cherry is a market leader in manufacturing mechanical keyboard switches, and their products are considered highly reliable, among circles of portable gaming enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, the GT83 is not equipped with the 4k panel display that it really deserved at this price. For now, we’ll have to deal with the 18.4 inch, 1080p IPS (In-Plane Switching) display. It has an anti-glare surface and greatly helps in minimizing reflections. The IPS display technology offers wide viewing angles, and the colors do not fade no matter where from you look at the screen. The colors have adequate saturation and the capacity for brightness is plentiful. Powered by 2 GeForce GTX 1080 GPU’s, the MSI GT83 is capable of producing 60 fps (frames per second) with butter smooth efficiency.

Gaming and GPU:

As far as GPU and visual experience is concerned, this beast of a gaming machine won’t ever let you down. Harboring 2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs, each having a memory of 8 GB; the MSI GT83 holds such enormous capability that you simply can’t push it to its limits.  A single GeForce GTX 1080 is powerful enough to pull out 60 fps with ease, let alone the power of 2 such graphic cards combined.

Because of the dual GTX 1080’s, this machine is VR-Ready, and you can connect any VR headset with it to play any VR title in the market that you can possibly think of. The MSI GT83 knows absolutely no limitations when it comes to gaming power. It is equally suited for graphic designers and image artists, because of its enormous video capabilities.

The MSI GT83VR Titan SLI is one of the very first machines to incorporate the latest 7th Generation Intel Core i-7 7920HQ Kaby Lake processor. Simply one of the best cpu’s for gaming! These processors have been optimized by Intel to deliver extraordinary performance boosts. Combine that with a jaw-dropping 64GB DDR4 RAM along with 2 latest GeForce GTX graphic cards, and you get enough gaming power to literally chew up any game you throw at it.

On the Geekbench 3 test (a processor-punishing, synthetic test that measures the overall performance of your machine), the GT83 scored 15,908, which is a remarkable score but considering its price, it would’ve been disappointing if the GT83 had fallen any shorter than this.

Having 2 512 GB SSDs configured with Super RAID 4, the GT83 is capable of delivering a stunning data transfer rate of up to 1,017MB (almost 1 GB) per second.

For a machine this large and powerful, the fans of GT83 are surprisingly calm and cool. MSI went to great lengths to make the cooling system of GT83 far superior to its predecessors. MSI added 15 heat pipes and resigned the fans for best possible performance. This technology ensures that the CPU and GPU remain in optimal condition whether you engage in intense gaming, or productive multi-tasking activities.

Although the 2 GeForce GPUs grant your machine an enormous amount of gaming power; they are a liability as well, since they are one of the main factors behind the quick drainage of battery. Despite its large size and awfully expensive price tag, the MSI GT83’s battery won’t last more than 2 hours and 30 minutes, even under power-conservative conditions. This drawback puts a huge question mark on the value of GT83, since this battery life is not even close to what one would expect from a gaming machine of such stature.

In terms of performance and capability, the MSI GT83VR Titan SLI is undoubtedly a bad-ass gaming machine. It uses Cherry MX Mechanical Switchesand is equipped with the latest Intel Kaby Lake processors. Nonetheless, the machine has some very apparent drawbacks that are hard to overlook with this price. MSI has indeed strived to make this machine one of a kind and it has succeeded as well. However, is this machine really worth the price after all? I will leave it for you to decide.
